On this episode of Graffiti x Blockchain, Leander and I discuss web3; what it is, the technology that has enabled it and what it means for funding cultural production.

Unlike web2, which we are all using today, web3 is built on the blockchain. It's totally decentralised. No Google to serve us ads in exchange for its search power, no Facebook to sell our data so we can scroll through viral conspiracy theories and pictures of people's kids.

In the new web, what you generate, you own.

Leander and I cover the evolution of the web from version 1, to 2 and into the web3 that everyone is currently talking about.

What's most interesting in this conversation, though, and about web3 in general, is how it enables us to fund culture production. To butcher a cliche quote: "where the money flows, attention grows".

Simply buying NFTs signals to the market that people want to see these. Thus, buying NFTs from graffiti writers and street artists sends the message that we want to see more graffiti and street art. In practical terms, you have the power today to contribute to the cultural production you want to see, thanks to blockchain technology.
